A glimpse into the afterlife? Among beliefs surrounding this annual festival in Mexico is the notion that as long as one is remembered, one lives. True death only occurs when a departed soul is forgotten. Every year, families of the dearly departed gather around the deceased's grave to clean the site and to adorn it with fresh flowers. In addition are many tokens that represent the loved one's life. My muertos show the departed engaging in their favorite activities: dancing, grilling, singing, courting, loving...

I believe that when loved ones pass on, they remain conscious of those they have left behind, and will stay with us until they are reassured that we are ready to embrace life without regrets at their passing.
